Today was a very special day, and I’m quite excited to share a bit of it with you! Ethan got promoted to specialist today, probably the highest rank he will see before leaving the army, and I was able to share it with him. Although it was quite rainy, his platoon congregated for a short and sweet ceremony to pin not only him, but two other members. We celebrated with a lazy lunch with the entire group, and I dropped Ethan off back on base for just an hour more of work.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of Ethan, and how much love I feel for him. Although I didn’t know Ethan before he enlisted, I know how crucial joining the military was for his future. With the trials of boot camp, the tedious training of AIT, the uncertainty of base placement and then to top it off the prospect of deployment, I never in a million years understood why anyone would do it. But being with Ethan has shown me that some people need it…if not for a lifelong career, then for motivation to better themselves. I know that I as a military spouse I get a little sliver of the day-to-day stress, and it continues to amaze me that Ethan takes each new challenge in stride. I’m happy he has not chosen to reenlist, but I can see how the military has provided him with the tools to succeed later on. Sharing this milestone with him today (I missed his last promotion since it took place before the big move) will definitely become a happy memory for us. And can I just say, he looks pretty darn good in that camo! Love you Ethan, so so proud.
